Brendan powers

Danvers High School

“DECA was my favorite part about my high school experience. The friends I made, the relationships I built, and the experiences I had truly shaped who I am today. My favorite memories are going to states and ICDC, but nothing beats winning glass in Nashville with the EntrePOWER team in 2016. We wanted to win glass for many reasons, but I think the biggest reason was to win it for our advisor Ms. Symmes and the Danvers DECA program. Ms. Symmes is the best advisor around and the program had never won glass before, so that motivated us to be the first!”

— Brendan, when asked about his DECA journey

What would you want to tell younger members?

“My #1 competition tip is to know your presentation like the back of your hand. Try not to use flash cards, just present like you’re telling story so that it feels natural and unscripted. Practice does not make perfect, only perfect practice makes perfect!”
