“My DECA journey started when my neighbor (also happened to be my advisor) didn't give me the choice of joining DECA or not. I had a rough freshman year getting wiped out at states in Innovation Plan. I knew I loved the program but I needed new energy so I partnered with Jack Haltom (who is also featured on the hall of fame) who is the silliest guy around. Then we took our philosophy of seeing what we could get away with in a presentation and had a close call to glass our sophomore year placing 4th internationally in Start-Up Business Plan. It was pretty upsetting to come that close after the most work we have ever put into anything (literally meeting up 7 days a week) so we decided to change categories into Business Growth Plan for our junior year because we thought we could start a business over the summer and take it to glass. That did not work out for us and it was another rough year. We did pretend there was a dragon in our presentation though! Then for my senior year, Jack and I took in our third half Logan who we did talent shows and fun adventures with before DECA. It was no doubt he was going to join our squad. For our senior year we had very lofty goals. We came together and decided we wanted three things out of our senior year, dubbed the Three Gs: Glass, Graduate and get into our top school, and you can probably guess the third. And after meeting up even more than we did our sophomore year we achieved all our goals and got 1st place DECA glass in Start-Up Business Plan. But never forget the secret fourth G of being Grateful for all your friends.”
