Danvers High School

“I started DECA my freshman year of high school. Both freshman and sophomore year, I did not do well. Then, something switched my junior year of high school, I finally understood what DECA was all about! I had switched topics and really enjoyed working in the FOR category. I never would have imagined that I could’ve gone from not knowing anything about DECA to winning glass, it came as such a surprise for me! DECA has opened up so many new friendships, for example, I am going to visit my friend who I met at nationals in Barcelona! It has strengthened my confidence, friendships, and networking.”

— Nora, when asked about her DECA journey

What would you want to tell younger members?

“My #1 competition tip would be to stay confident and don’t use memorization as much as you think you need. Understand your project well enough where you don’t need to create a detailed script. Having a script memorized can trip people up during the presentation.”
