“I joined DECA my junior year of high school. I went to a school where DECA was pretty big so I would take on the challenge. That year my partner Liam Hickey and I started a financial literacy campaign, Skills For Your Bills, that would make thousands of impressions in our community through events and classes. My senior year, Liam and I ran the project back because we had unfinished business at ICDC. From there, we went on an absolute tear winning at districts, states, and ICDC. I took home glass while serving as chapter president, an absolutely unbelievable experience that has shaped my career in business even 2 years into college.”

— Phil, when asked about his DECA journey

What would you want to tell younger members?

“Never give up. My partner and I faced constant adversity. We’ve redone our project in a month, we’ve re-written our script the day before ICDC presentations. Never stop trying to be better.”
